Hannah Mitchell: Ravenclaw

I was 14 the first time I read a little book called Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone. I had always loved books about boarding schools, I grew up on Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers and St Clare’s series. I was getting into science fiction and fantasy so a book that was about a boarding school for magical kids was a brilliant idea.

So many of my friends read the books, I met so many people online through the love of the books. I remember midnight release parties at the local Waterstones. I remember how excited I was when the movies came out and perfect I thought Emma, Rupert and Daniel were. I wanted to be Hermione Granger – but always thought she belonged with Harry, not Ron. I wanted to be in Ravenclaw – I was a total bookwork who loved learning and was always top of the class. I was never brave enough for Gryffindor.

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind.

I cried so hard at the end of Deathly Hallows – the idea of there being no more books, no more Harry, Ron & Hermione… I was devastated.
I cried again watching the 2nd Deathly Hallows movie for the same reason.
I know they live on in my heart but it was… the end of an era.

And then there was The Cursed Child. I’m not a huge fan of the storyline, I’m not a fan of the way Harry is as a father but then again, you can’t expect him to win any Father Of The Year prizes considering he never exactly had a stable father figure.
But I digress. It was being able to re-enter the world that Rowling had created that, that had shaped my formative years… being able to go back again was the wonder and the joy.

Fantastic Beasts fully reignited that love. I was skeptical at first, I had no idea how a movie – how a series of movies – could be made from that book. I will admit I spoiled myself, I read everything I could about it to prepare myself and I think I was already in love with Newt before the film even started. Again, the chance to go back into the Magical World – and a whole new part of it. It was breathtaking. And I loved it.

You can only imagine my excitement and the current new news coming out about the second film. And how amazing does Jude Law look as a young Dumbledore. I couldn’t picture him at all but now I see it and it’s just YES! I can’t wait!

A Few Of My Favourite Things

I found one of those 30 day memes on Pinterest that really caught my eye – it’s all about Top 5 favourites and includes topics such as actors, actresses, movies, books, models, animals, fears… I think it looks quite interesting and I’m really looking forward to starting it. I sort of want to start it today because it feels like new things should start on a Monday, but the month starts tomorrow. So tomorrow I’ll start it.

Right now I am –
reading: JK Rowling – Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows
watching: Nothing, but I’m poking at Netflix to see if anything catches my attention. I’m thinking of catching up on Saving Hope (which is downloading because I’m a naughty girl!) and finishing Forever. Although I’m quite tired so I do’t know if I’ll stay awake to watch 3 episodes tonight. At least I’ll have good dreams if I fall asleep in any of those!
listening to: An 80s rock playlist on Spotify
eating: I’ve just ordered a pizza because I’m feeling tired and lazy

Welcome!

• My name is Hannah. I’m in my mid-30s, live alone in England with two cats. I’ve been with my boyfriend Ben for almost 7 years and we have no plans to get married.

• Please let me know if I say something that you find offensive or tactless, because I can be quite thoughtless when I say things sometimes, so I’d appreciate being told so I don’t do it again. I don’t mean it maliciously, I simply don’t think before inserting my foot into my mouth.

• I’m a huge fan of 90s/2000s alternative rock/grunge. I love Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Semisonic, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Muse, Linkin Park, The White Stripes, 3 Doors Down, Queens Of The Stone age… I have a last.fm account – it’s a new one because, like my old LJ, I’ve lost all the log-in details

• I love science fiction! My favourites are Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Farscape, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Andromeda. I’m currently really loving Dark Matter, Killjoys, iZombie and Stitchers.

• I sold my soul to Joss Whedon many decades ago and he’s never let me down. I have an immense love for that man and his work.

• The superhero films and TV shows of recent years are a current obsession of mine. I love both DC and Marvel, although Marvel possibly slightly more because I love how it’s all connected – it’s all one timeline whereas with DC there’s these shows here in this bubble, these movies here in this bubble. I’m liking the new Justice League era of movies

• I have a Bsc in Psychology but have never put it to use and work in a bank. People fascinate me endlessly and I have thought of doing some form of study in Social Psychology/Sociology or Philosophy.
I’ve just started learning German through Duolingo

• I used to be a big bookworm and I’m trying to pick that back up again. I love science-fiction, fantasy and horror, although I think my current favourite genre is young adult urban fantasy. I’m re-reading the Harry Potter series and have just started The Prisoner Of Azkaban
You can find me on goodreads (which is another new account, I mentioned losing all my log in details for all my social media, yes?)

• I think this is pretty much everything, although if there’s anything you would like to know, feel free to ask!
